Entrants to the May Kialo Templates Tournament agree to the following terms and conditions:
- The competition is open to teachers actively teaching (full or part time) in schools in the following list of countries: Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Montenegro, Netherlands, Northern Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and United States of America. Participants must be 18 years of age or older.
- Participants may submit a single Kialo discussion, comprising a template for a classroom debate for students anywhere between the ages of 11 and 18 years old, which must be an original work by the participant (hereafter referred to as “template”).
- Only one submission per individual is allowed. No revision will be possible after the template is officially submitted.
- Each template should be:
- Hosted on the Kialo Edu site (kialo-edu.com), in the single-thesis format. Entries should have the sharing link activated.
- Be in English.
- Cover a topic not already included in our Templates Library.
- Have two pro and two con claims under the thesis.
- Include background info of 150-350 words.
- Participants must be a currently working teacher who teaches children that are in compulsory schooling, or are between the ages of 5 and 18. Teachers who teach on a part-time basis, and teachers of online courses are eligible, so long as they are teaching in a government-recognised schooling context. Kialo reserves the right to verify that winners are eligible prior to distribution of prizes.
- Each template should be free of elements that may violate or infringe upon the copyright of any other person or organization. It is the responsibility of the participant to ensure that all content used in the template is free from copyright. The submission must not contain any student Personally Identifiable Information. Any infringing template will immediately be disqualified.
- By submitting the template, the participant grants Kialo a non-exclusive license to use the template, including but not limited to the right to publish, transmit, sell, distribute, modify, create derivative works and otherwise use the template in electronic and print versions throughout the world, in all languages and in all media of expression now known or later developed, and to license and permit others to do so; and the participant certifies that no other rights have been granted which could conflict with the right hereby given to Kialo.
- By submitting the template, the participant further agrees that Kialo may publish the template together with the participant’s name and employer on the Kialo website, social media and other platforms.
- Entries should be submitted through the submission form located in the Tournament Announcement. Data collected through the submission form will not be shared further than outlined in these terms and conditions, and will be kept only for the purpose of notifying and announcing winners, attributing published content, and distributing prizes.
- The deadline for submission is May 16, 2023 at 21:59 (9:59 pm) UTC. Templates submitted after this time will not be considered.
- The winners will be notified at the school email address provided. If the winner does not get back to Kialo within two weeks after notification, the prize will be forfeited. The prize will be sent free of charge to the winner to the email address provided after feedback and confirmation.
- Prizes are as follows below. Prizes are denominated in USD, but will be made available in the specified Amazon store and currency from your application.
- First prize: 500USD Amazon gift card.
- Second prize: 250USD Amazon gift card.
- Third prize: 150USD Amazon gift card.
- 50 participation prizes, distributed to the next 50 ranked entries: 50USD Amazon gift card.
- All personal data will be treated in accordance with Kialo’s Data Security and Privacy Plan, available here.
